In Honor and Memory of Pilot, Mentor, and Friend Costas Sivyllis (’12)

Costas Sivyllis graduated from the Daytona Beach campus in 2012 with an Aeronautical Science degree and business minor. He was a First Officer at United Airlines on the Boeing 757/767 aircraft, as well as the chairman of the National Education Committee for the Air Line Pilots Association Int'l.

As Chairman he oversaw ALPA’s relationships with academia. This included ALPA’s industry outreach programs, Aviation Collegiate Education (ACE) Clubs (which he founded while he was a student at Embry-Riddle), Collegiate partnerships, academic events, and relationships with Aviation Accreditation Board International (AABI), the University Aviation Association (UAA), Canadian Association of Aviation Colleges, and Women in Aviation, Int’l. He also helped to bring the United Aviate program to Embry-Riddle and was a wonderful ambassador for the program. Costas had a long history dedicated to promoting the airline pilot career to today's youth.

Costas and his wife of four days, Lindsey, were killed in a tragic accident on Monday October 5, 2020. In conjunction with Costas’s family, Embry-Riddle has established an endowed scholarship in Costas’s honor that will support the next generation of aspiring pilots. This endowed scholarship will support flight-training costs for students in the Aeronautical Science program on the Daytona Beach campus.

Costas was a rising star and an amazing Eagle who gave back tirelessly to the aviation community that he loved. He will be missed by his friends, family, mentees, and all who knew him. This endowed scholarship will be given annually, in perpetuity.

The Costas Sivyllis Fund has accumulated donations of $48,070.00 as of October 7, 2022.
