Boeing Scholarships Help Make Dreams Come True
When Jeffrey Alvarado (’10, DB) and Caroline Brozovich (’10, DB) were awarded scholarships from The Boeing Company for the 2010-11 academic year, they were reassured that they not only would be able to complete their education at Embry-Riddle, but even more importantly, be able to pursue their dreams.
“Without this scholarship, I simply wouldn’t have been able to continue at Embry-Riddle,” says Alvarado, who will graduate in December from the Aeronautical Science degree program with a minor in Aviation Business Administration and a dispatch operations certificate. “But now, I am able to stay focused on my academics instead of being worried about the cost.”
In addition to becoming a commercial pilot, Alvarado, who is from Nicaragua, plans to use his flying skills to help others in less fortunate countries. “As a pilot, I see myself being able to do more to help around the world,” he says. “I’d like to help third world countries in humanitarian efforts.”
For Brozovich, who will graduate with an Aeronautical Science degree with a focus on the air traffic control and dispatch programs, the Boeing Scholarship has allowed her to continue flight training over the summer in preparation for graduation in December. “The scholarship from Boeing helped me get ahead by funding the courses I needed to take over the summer. I’ve been able to get them done so I can finish my degree,” says Brozovich. “Without this funding, I couldn’t fly – and if I can’t fly, I can’t achieve my dreams.”
Over the past 10 years, the Boeing Charitable Trust has provided over $1 million in grants to support scholarships for students like Alvarado and Brozovich, as well as to help fund student organizations and research projects. For the 2010-11 academic year, 50 students from the Daytona Beach and Prescott campuses were awarded scholarships, totaling $150,000.
